Drupal 7

Drupal 7 will reach its End of Life in November of 2022. Drupal 7 was first released in January 2011. After over a decade of support Drupal 7 will reach EoL and will no longer receive updates, bug/security fixes, or other improvements. If you have a site that is running on Drupal 7, now is the time to start planning the upgrade. What this means for your Drupal 7 sites is, as of November 2022:
  • No more support for Drupal 7
  • No more core commits (Bug fixes, security fixes, improvements)
  • The Drupal Security Team will no longer provide support or Security Advisories for Drupal 7 core or contributed modules, themes, or other projects. Reports about Drupal 7 vulnerabilities might become public creating 0 day exploits.
  • After November 2021, using Drupal 7 may be flagged as insecure in 3rd party scans as it no longer gets support.

Drupal 8

Drupal 8 reached its End of Life on November 2nd, 2021 Drupal 8 is dependent on Symfony 3, and Symfony 3's end of life is November 2021. Consequently, Drupal 8 support will end on November 2, 2021. Fortunately moving from Drupal 8 to 9 will be far easier than previous major version upgrades and will not require any major code or theme rewriting. If your site is already on Drupal 8 then most sites can be easily upgraded to Drupal 9 with very few changes to your existing website. Drupal 9

Drupal 9 was released on June 3, 2020, alongside Drupal 8.9. The major difference between Drupal 9 and its predecessor was the removal of deprecated code and the update of its third-party dependencies. This "release-in-place" approach from Drupal 8 made the transition to Drupal 9 significantly easier, as the core code was largely the same.

Drupal 10

Drupal 10 was officially released on December 14, 2022. This major release happened ahead of the end of support for Drupal 9, following the Drupal community's tradition of releasing major versions on Wednesdays.

Drupal 11

Drupal 11 was released on August 2, 2024. This major release was the culmination of a release schedule that considered several potential release windows in 2024, with the final date dependent on the completion of development milestones like the beta version.
